Off-roading by its very nature usually leads to some degree of rock crawling. Some of us may enjoy mellow fire roads with a quick dip into black diamond territory while others live for extreme pucker-level crawling. No matter which kind of off roading you enjoy, it’s always nice to know your rig can handle anything you throw at it. Although nothing can replace the rush of taking your rig out on a trail, there is something that may come close. Scale RC rock crawlers have been booming as of late, and they’re getting more and more realistic with each generation. The latest Axial Racing SCX6 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon crawler promises all the action, but in a slightly smaller scale. Subscribe to our weekly newsletter This Scale Jeep is a “Micro” Rock Crawler The reason we say, “slighty scaled down” is because this giant RC Jeep crawler is finished in an impressive 1/6 scale. If you’re not quite sure just how big that makes it, let’s just say that this Jeep is nearly 3 feet long, rolls on 7-inch tall BFGoodrich KM3 tires, and weighs 25 pounds. Yes, it’s about as big, or even bigger, than a medium-sized dog. Don’t consider this scale rig a toy. This officially licensed RC Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon was built down to scale by Axial to take on rock crawling, tough inclines, and technical off-road trails, just like a real Jeep. Based on their super-sized SCX6 platform, this JLU has plenty of authentic off-road performance and a super detailed look. A high-torque motor and realistic 4×4 drivetrain power the electric RC rig. A 3-link Panhard front and four-link rear suspension setup offer remote shiftable on the fly high and low gears right out of the box. This fun to drive and look at scale RC Jeep crawler can tackle obstacles found at camp or in your backyard. Don’t let the fun stop after you’ve parked your rig for the day. Keep the adventure going with the Axial Racing SCX6 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. 01. Suspension/Motor Suspension. Scale coil over shocks provide shock absorption and dampening over rough trails and rocky roads. The scale Jeep crawler’s hard anodized aluminum oil-filled coilover shocks feature threaded shock bodies for quick and easy ride height adjustment. Motor. The large-scale Jeep has an oversized Spektrum brushless electric motor that is mounted in the chassis just aft of an engine detail piece. The 1200Kv motor is larger than most sensored motors with dimensions of 56mm in diameter and 84mm in length. 02. Scale Details Authentic Wheels. Yes, those are Black Rhino Primm wheels you see on this rig. The injection-molded, 3-piece functional beadlock wheels allow driver to easily removed and replaced tires. Licensed Tires. Authentic wheels deserve authentic tires. Massive, 7-inch tall BFGoodrich KM3 tires provide excellent grip and ground clearance for dirt, rocks, and all other off-road trails. Detailed Body. The Jeep JLU Wrangler body mirrors the full-size version, with many molded scale details throughout the interior and exterior that even the most ardent Jeep enthusiasts will admire. LED headlights and taillights add to the realism after dark. 03. Driveline Locked Differentials. This 1/6 scale Jeep’s front and rear differentials are locked to help crawl over even the most challenging of terrains. Transmission. A two-speed transmission is built in. Switch to high gear to drive longer distances. Once you’re ready to crawl again, engage low gear for the extra torque you need to tackle the rocks. 04. Tech 3- and 4-Link System. Axial designed the 3-link front suspension to reduce bump steer, while the rear 4-link reduces torque twist. It also helps with steep off-camber climbs by having the proper amount of anti-squat and roll balance. The 4-Link system also aids against suspension wrap-up in high-power applications. Electronic Speed Controller. The factory-installed, waterproof Firma Crawler 120A Smart Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) delivers power and intelligence all in one. This brushless ESC gives your SCX6 Jeep JLU Wrangler 4WD the ultimate drive while feeding important telemetry data straight to your DX3 transmitter in real time.
