An Off-Road Rebuild Masterpiece: Inside Stoffregen Motorsports’ Toyota BJ74 Transformation

Every now and then you come across the Holy Grail of build threads on a web forum. You know the one, the perfect build thread that has equal parts good conversation, tech and photos. They are exceptionally rare, but when a good one comes along, go grab a sandwich and a beer and tell your significant other that you will be MIA for a while.

Well, we have done the legwork for you and found one of the best rebuilds on the interwebs. Stoffregen Motorsports of Cool, California, is renowned in the off-road world for meticulous—albeit lengthy—builds that cover fine details all the way down to type and grade of bolt being used. This particular build thread covers a Toyota BJ74 that has been stripped down to the frame, axle swapped, and turned into what would be considered a perfect modern interpretation of a classic design.
