5 Trail Mix Recipes to Keep You Fueled on the Trail

Tired of the same good ol’ raisins and peanuts? Sick of premade trail mixes full of filler ingredients that you don’t like? What about buying overpriced, sugary snacks that leave you hangry at the end of your adventure? We know we are. That’s why we’ve gathered this list of five ideas for unique, flavorful, and filling trail mix recipes.

Tropical Trail Mix

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried mango, chopped
  • 1 cup dried pineapple, chopped
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 cup raw cashews
  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Store in an airtight container until ready to eat.

Savory Trail Mix

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup roasted chickpeas
  • 1 cup unsalted almonds
  • 1 cup unsalted cashews
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients except cranberries until evenly coated.
  3. Spread mixture evenly onto a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden. Let the chickpeas get crispy.
  4. Add cranberries.
  5. Allow to cool before storing in an airtight container.

Chocolate Trail Mix

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 1 cup raw cashews
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1/2 cup raw cacao nibs
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Store in an airtight container until ready to eat.

Sweet and Salty Trail Mix

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted cashews
  • 1 cup unsalted almonds
  • 1 cup unsalted sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Store in an airtight container until ready to eat.

Spicy Trail Mix

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 1 cup raw cashews
  • 1 cup roasted chickpeas
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients (except cranberries) until evenly coated.
