Installing ThermoTec’s Sound Deadening Material If you’re a Jeep owner and you like to take road trips, you undoubtedly have an interest in some sound-deadening tips to quiet the interior for those long drives. We’ve tried all the basic tricks like tightening the T-tops, turning up the radio, and trying different sets of tires, but it’s time to step it up and turn to a company that specializes in just these types of problems. Thermo-Tec is well-known for its sound-deadening and heat products, and we were excited to test them out on our daily-driven Jeep Gladiator. The idea is to fill all of the seams in the windshield surround, make note of the results, and then move onto some under-carpet and door panel treatments. This project was a simple single-day process—it only took a few hours, and we were able to do it in our garage. A few basic tools, some patience, and the right product made a massive difference in the long-range drivability of our Jeep. Subscribe to our weekly newsletter Sources Thermo-Tec —https://thermotec.com/ Our Jeep Gladiator is a fun daily driver that has some basic customizations, including a lift kit and bigger tires, which always adds extra road noise. But we know that the majority of our problem comes from all the cracks and crevices around these vehicles that need to be filled. The first area we’re going to focus on is the windshield surround. These vehicles are designed for the windshield to fold down like the original Jeeps, which is a fun option, but it definitely affects the quietness when driving . To get this project started, we pulled into our garage and first took off the T-tops. Next, we simply took out the screws that hold the windshield in place and set them aside for reinstallation upon completion. With the screws removed, it’s easy to simply fold down the windshield and start preparing our material. Before we apply the material using the adhesive backing, we clean the area around the windshield with some rubbing alcohol to make sure there’s no dirt or debris that will affect the longevity of this product. We also decided to run a bead of silicone in the seam of the windshield to prevent any air from being trapped and causing a whistling effect. at before and after look at the silicone we added into the seam of the windshield. For this project, we chose the suppressor material from Thermo-Tec. This material excels in environments where both sound and radiant heat control are important. This mat combines a polyethylene film with a durable foil surface, providing shielding against radiant heat up to 2,000°F and direct temperatures up to 300°F. The material has an adhesive backing, making it easy to apply to a clean surface. Now it’s time to attach the suppressor material from Thermo-Tec. They also offer these great rolling tools to make sure it lays flat with no gaps. We simply cut the material to size and roll it onto our clean surface. The material molds to our curves perfectly with no force needed. After only about 30 minutes of work, we were able to cover the entire sealed area of our windshield, and it’s ready to attach back into the original position. With the windshield back in place, we can now reattach the windshield wipers and take it for a test drive. What better place to take it to than the beach, where there’s plenty of wind and a relaxing road trip to get there? We were highly impressed by how much quieter our vehicle is now. This product was the perfect solution for our problem.
