For 20 years, Toyota Sports Corner (TOSCO), the motorsports division of Toyota, was winning races globally with many trophies held and several records set by its driver. In 1979, it was time to give the winning global brand an overhaul to capitalize on the success; TOSCO changed to Toyota Racing Development — and TRD was born.

Not only did TRD support racing across the world, but they were also put in charge of improving performance on production vehicles.
