Snuffy” Built for Duty Reporting for Duty When you see a rig like this roll through camp, you know it has got stories baked into every cut, weld, and badge. Aaron Hale’s 1976 Ford Bronco Explorer, nicknamed “Pvt. Snuffy,” isn’t just another trail toy; it’s a salute on four wheels to military heritage, backwoods adventure, and getting your hands dirty. Aaron hails from Meridian, Idaho, where he runs his own businesses and still finds time to build Broncos like it’s second nature. This build was a trial run before turning wrenches on his wife’s dream rig. Four months and about 70 grand later, Pvt. Snuffy was wrapped in OD green and ready to serve. Subscribe to our weekly newsletter Under the vinyl wrap is a solid old-school rig that means business. It’s powered by a 331 ci Ford stroker V-8 from a mystery donor chassis, topped with Edelbrock aluminum heads and a Thunder Series 650 carb. Spark comes courtesy of MSD, and spent fumes exit through Wild Horses headers and a Flowmaster exhaust system. It barks when it fires up and doesn’t apologize. The drivetrain is a mixture of smart swaps and tough parts, including a Jeep AX15 5-speed mated to a Dana 20 via an Advance Adapters kit, disc brakes all around, and 4.10/4.11 gearing to keep the Falken MTs moving through the muck. A Wild Horses suspension lift and Bilstein shocks soak up whatever the Idaho backroads throw down. Inside, the Bronco has Tom’s Offroad seats, a Jon Gilman cage, Bluetooth tunes, and A/C. Yup, it’s trail-ready and road-comfy. There are even LED projector lights tucked up under the bumpers with a Bronco logo shining bright, homemade style. Aaron’s biggest takeaway? Wraps are cheaper and faster than paint. His biggest gripe? That Dana 30 up front is on borrowed time, with a Dana 44 in the wings. And the truck’s name? Pvt. Snuffy is a nod to an old military legend, a little mischief, a lot of pride, and a whole bunch of respect. This Bronco’s not built for mall crawlin’. It’s a salute on wheels, and Pvt. Snuffy stands tall, even when it’s lying low on the trail. UPGRADES Owner: Aaron Hale Location: Meridian, ID Vehicle: 1976 Ford Bronco Explorer Nickname: Pvt.
