Baja Designs is the only company that takes the engineering time to ensure that their LEDs are being driven at 100% output, and use 5000K output to ensure the mimic of daylight and reduce eye fatigue at night. They also put tons of engineering time into the reflectors and lenses to maximize output and reduce light loss through scatter. An LED chip is only capable of producing so many lumens, and making sure they all get down range is BD’s business. Subscribe to our weekly newsletter The XL80 has been BD’s flagship light for a couple years now. Measuring in at a pint-sized 4.5” x 4.5”, this hero uses four CREE LEDs that are driven at 100% thanks to BD’s CopperDrive technology to produce a whopping 9500 Lumens. Yes, nine-thousand-five-hundred Lumens. A pair of these little lights can out power, singlehandedly, most light bars without breaking a sweat. Electrical Draw sits at 80 watts per light and they produce 5000K colored light. IP69K ratings mean they are submersible and power washable, and IK10 ratings for mechanical impact testing and exceeds MIL-STD810G U.S. Military Standard testing. Microprocessor drivers ensure the CREE LEDs are always operating at the top of performance, but also protect them if the going gets too rough, earning a 49,930-estimated lifespan for the chipsets and a limited lifetime warranty against defects. A third wire on the harness also allows for a 20% output mode if jump-starting the sun was not in the playbook. The electrical system is also compatible with sPOD’s HD Source system that can vary the light output from 1-100% and everywhere in-between. The downside to the incredible XL80? They are not cheap, and this much quality and technology comes at a price, $399.95 each to be exact. We promise, though, that once you see the performance of these lights and their capability, $399 is a worthwhile investment.
