Overlanding Dreams: Planning for Spring and Summer Adventures

Every year around March, I travel from my home state of Idaho to the coastal tributaries of Oregon to swing for winter steelhead, take in the landscape, and spend some time with friends. My day job is in the fly-fishing industry, and it takes me to some of the most incredible places in the world. But there’s something special about the PNW (or Pacific North Wet as my buddy Todd Rettmann calls it). My favorite thing to do is explore this beautiful corner of the country.

As I write this, I’m watching the rain pound outside, thinking about this great issue, and dreaming about my fun adventures planned for this year. What are your plans for spring and summer? Do you have overlanding adventures planned? Old-fashioned camping trips? Rides on beach dunes or in the desert? Let us know—and send us your pictures!

Our May/June issue has a little of everything. You will find adventures in the Outback, one-of-a-kind rock crawlers, and much more. You’ll meet AlumiBOB, a fully outfitted and armored Jeep Gladiator; a Ranger built to “enjoy the desert at speed; a third-gun Tundra that lives up to its name; and a purpose-built ’98 Land Rover Discovery built by Ryno of Ryno Built Rod & Custom.

We’ve also got some great event coverage for you from the Winter 4×4 Jamboree and the always-epic King of Hammers—KOH never disappoints. It was a little wetter than usual this year, but it was nothing short of amazing. We’re already looking forward to next year’s events!

And don’t forget about all our great columns, including Made the Cut, Outfitted, and Gear Box. They each feature the latest accessories you need when you’re out on the road (or trail).

Thank you all for being a part of the TREAD community! If you have some amazing trip pics to share, go to Tread.com to upload photos, memorable moments, and more!

Happy trails,
Devan Ence
