Off-Road News: California 300, Rebelle Rally, and New Products
Lots of exciting news ahead, readers. Fall is one of the peak times for off-road events: expos, rallies, and more. It’s impossible to be everywhere all at once: events local to us are amazing, but we’d love to get to see them all. If you feel the same way, here’s your chance to get a glimpse at all of the amazing off-road events happening this month.
Recently, Tread Magazine’s Managing Editor Ryan Price found himself with the perfect chance to try out some new tires. Ryan’s daily driver is a 2017 Ford F250, which he also takes off-road in his free time so that he can camp out with his son’s boy scout troop. Nexen has any size you can imagine for all-terrain tires, and we chose a 35 by 12 1/2-inch tire mounted on an 18-inch wheel for the Ford F250.
Finding zen while living the vanlife is harder than you might imagine. Bryan and Jen Danger, along with their sweetheart yellow lab Karma (RIP), lived the overland life for nearly seven years in four different vans. They both ditched impressive corporate careers for a nomadic life of adventure without deadlines. Bryan is an architectural designer and continued to iterate what he thought would be the perfect four-season overland campervan for the couple’s life on the road. What that turned into is Zenvanz: modular DIY kits that not only look awesome and unique, but are also extremely durable and functional.
There is no difference between the kitchen in your house and that of one on an overland journey. The center of the social circle in the middle of the wilderness is around the campfire, the stove, the JetBoil on the hood of your Jeep, or the full kitchen slide-out in your trailer. The overland kitchen is as important as good tires, a trusty suspension, and a full tank of gasoline. Without it, you’re just out for a hungry drive instead of a well-fed adventure. Remember, an army runs on its stomach; prepare accordingly.
Chris Collard is at it again- this time teaching us how to get the very best action shots. He covers everything from techniques and necessary gear to the best tips for capturing motion. When the dust settles, action photography is about creating a “wow” moment in someone’s day. Chris expertly outlines everything you need to know to join in on the fun and capture stunning shots that will really leave an impression.
The Toyota 4Runner definitely has a soft spot in off-road enthusiasts' hearts; it all started with the first generation back in the mid-80s up to the current fifth generation, which has been on sale for over the last two decades. For Wayne Weidow, the inspiration for his '87 Toyota 4Runner started with another Toyota pickup of off-road royalty and grew into this pretty capable overland rig. Follow along to find out how Weidow built his perfect rig.
