Recipes From Overlanders, For Overlanders
No one knows camp cooking better than some of our friends in the overland community. While we may aspire to tantalize taste buds as much as they do, we prefer to turn to their expertise—and their tasty meals. We reached out to a few fellow overlanders and campers who are known for making good grub. They shared recipes of their favorite dishes when out on trips. With little to no prep at home, camp cooking can be easily stepped up a notch to bring gourmet meals to the outdoors. We’re putting our trust in these recipes made by overlanders, for overlanders.
The Strongest Truck Topper Ever is Made in Montana
Guys, we re-ordered our wishlist today. Our new #1 item: this GFC Platform Truck Topper. It’s right in mid-range for both weight and price, but outperforms the competition in every other way. This truck topper is more durable and stronger than anything else on the market. It’s so strong, it exceeds the static carrying capacity of the bed rails on any pickup truck. The company had to reinforce the bed of a Toyota Tacoma with 500 pounds of steel in order to match the strength of the Topper.
Whether or not we talk about it often, meals are one of the most important parts of any outdoor adventure. If part of your trip is a long day hike, what you’ll eat before you head out is fuel for the day ahead. While you’re on the trail, the lunch and snacks you pack keep you going for the second half of your day. Eating a well-balanced dinner will also accelerate your body’s recovery after your hike. Hiking meals are tough to plan, though, so here’s our guide for a full day of on-the-go campground eats.
Last year, REDARC Electronics ran a $40K sweepstakes across North America to find two lucky winners to receive huge upgrades to their overland rigs. To make sure the winners could travel with the latest innovations, REDARC added some serious upgrades, including the latest overlanding, camping, and power management products. These winners have taken their rides to the next level, and they had the chance to test out these upgrades with another sweepstakes perk: an all-expense paid 4-day journey off-road.
Now that we’re heading into better (cooler) weather, chances are you’ll want to be outside more often. Whether you’re on a family camping trip or just out for picnic at your favorite park, there’s no reason to limit your meals to just sandwiches and potato salad. While dehydrated or freeze-dried foods are also a great option, sometimes you want a little luxury! When your car is packed with kids, camping gear and the family dog, you probably won’t have room for your full-size grill. But with a bit of creativity, you can enjoy great campsite cuisine cooked outdoors with a minimum of prep or cleanup time.
Skip freeze-dried flavor for campsite kitchen meals that are as fresh and tasty as you can get with these easy Dutch oven recipes. If you aren’t convinced that your camp kit needs a Dutch oven yet, read this and then go shopping. Here, Steven Paul Barlow shares two of his favorites. We’re already hungry.
