Never one to turn down adventure or the chance to experience new things, the opportunity to jump in the driver seat of TREAD was a no-brainer for Kelly Nomura. She has a passion for the outdoors and enjoys camping, hiking, and snowboarding. It took only a couple events before she fell in love with the overland community. They welcomed her with open arms and she quickly made friendships that would last a lifetime. With 13 years in the automotive enthusiast industry, Kelly has worked with all different types of automobiles, but off-roading is the most exciting. The TREAD content team rounds out the knowledge and experience to produce inspiring, provoking, and informative stories. Kelly is proud to lead TREAD, where her professional background blends perfectly with her love for outdoor adventure, automobiles and building a community.
During his more than 20 years as a photojournalist, Chris has been published in National Geographic Adventure, the New York Times, Motor Trend, and TREAD. He has also been editor-in-chief at Overland Journal. His 4WD travels have taken him across all seven continents. His commercial clients include Jeep and Ram Trucks. The Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame has inducted Chris as a pioneering journalist. When he’s not working, Chris sips fine tequila at ‘The Office’ (his sailboat) and waits for a tail wind.
Features editor Bryon Dorr has worked as a photojournalist in overland, outdoor, and off-road arenas for more than a decade. Bryon avidly seeks new experiences in remote environments. He has lived on the road full-time for years at a time, built multiple award-winning overland vehicles, and explored many corners of the globe in a wide range of 2 and 4-wheeled vehicles. He is a highly regarded speaker at overland events. Along with travel, high-energy outdoor activities like whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, and skiing are what fuel Bryon’s passion for life.
Jonathan has explored six continents by vehicle, bicycle, sailboat, and foot. He and his wife, Roseann, founded the Overland Expo. Jonathan and Tom Sheppard co-authored the Vehicle-dependent Expedition Guide, the bible of overland travel.
Photojournalist Mercedes Lilienthal specializes in vehicular adventure travel. She and her husband have three right-hand-drive turbo-diesel 4x4 Mitsubishis, a 1994 Delica Space Gear (aka the TBD Tractor), two Gen 2 short-wheelbase Pajeros, and finally, two customized subcompact daily drivers. A dual citizen of the United States and Germany, Mercedes loves to explore the world.
